A modern take on the heritage of Petaling Street, Merchants Lane is a cafe and restaurant that sees the transversing of local charm.
My approach to Merchant's Lane branding was to keep the classical signboard concept during the 1960's in Malaysia. Back in the day, multilingual signboards was designed to attract the diverse population in Malaysia because not everyone speaks the common language. With the same purpose, we prioritized the visitors that commonly visits Petaling streets who speaks Chinese, Tamil and English. The style of each typefaces were chosen based on the legibility as a signboard during the 1960's. Small shops with large signboards for customers to notice easily.
